Hydraulic Pila rediscovered in Mello, Valtellina owned by the family of Antonio Bonadeo in the High Middle Ages. That is mill for grinding grain, chestnuts and husking of barley. In the picture beside you see the two stone columns connected by wooden supports with holes, where vertically scroll strikers.
 
Sasso called "pila" with double notch where the product was put to be crushed. Clearly visible are the pin stop and iron support at the extremities of the hammerstone. These were raised by a shaft pegs (cams), which falling broke down and crushed the grain. This particular pila was used for husking barley and worked until the early Twentieth century. Its owner was Antonio Bonadeo class 1891, which he inherited from his father along to the mill. Its age dates back to 1600. It is unknown the method used to make it work, either by hand or by hydraulic force. The elders of the place have not been able to give any answer on this question.
